What Is This Compound?

BPC-157 is a short synthetic peptide that has been studied across a remarkably wide range of tissue types. It was originally derived from a protein found in human gastric juice, and researchers have investigated its effects on tissue repair, inflammation, and recovery across the gastrointestinal tract, tendons, muscles, and the nervous system. One notable characteristic is its stability — unlike most peptides, it remains active in the presence of gastric acid, which has made it useful in both oral and injectable research models. It has one of the broadest published research footprints of any peptide in the regenerative biology category.

The Science Behind It

BPC-157 (Body Protection Compound-157) is a synthetic pentadecapeptide consisting of 15 amino acids, derived from a partial sequence of human gastric juice protein BPC. It is one of the most extensively studied peptides in regenerative biology research, with a broad literature examining its effects on tissue repair, angiogenesis, and inflammatory signaling across multiple organ systems. BPC-157 is stable in gastric juice and has been studied in both systemic and local administration models.

Mechanism of Action

BPC-157 is proposed to exert its effects through multiple pathways including upregulation of growth hormone receptor expression, modulation of the nitric oxide (NO) system, and promotion of angiogenesis via VEGF and FAK-paxillin signaling. Research suggests it may accelerate fibroblast migration and collagen synthesis, reduce oxidative stress, and modulate the balance between pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines. Its cytoprotective effects have been studied across gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and neural tissue models.
